Blogathon 2013 Concludes

That's a wrap, folks!

This year I raised $360 which goes directly to Best Friends Animal Society, and Best Friends Animal Society-Los Angeles.  I cannot express my gratitude enough for those of you that donated to my Blogathon this year, it really means a lot to me simply because of how much these animals mean to me. The money you all selflessly shared with them will go a very, very long way and is definitely going to save lives and help change the world.  You should be proud of yourselves, woo hoo!!

As for the future of Blogathon...I promised myself to finish it this year before deciding if I will do it again next year and as of now I can say that this was more than likely my final year.  I am not as young as I was when I started the tradition and life's circumstances has changed this past year which makes staying awake difficult!  Now being a guardian to a special needs cat, Fiona, I get very little sleep as it is which is already taking a toll on my body.  I admit I did have to take a couple small cat naps this year just to not lose my mind! :)  Who knows, though, I might change my mind and do Blogathon again next year. :)

It has been such a fun experience and I am SO PROUD to have raised the money that I did for Best Friends Animal Society!  They are such a top notch, classy, AMAZING organization that I will support 100% to the best of my abilities.  Thank you BFAS for allowing me the chance to fundraise for you, it has truly been an honor.

Reflection

It is always quite the process to put a Blogathon together, and it takes time. The 2^nd Annual Blogathon's planning stages began last February and even up until Friday afternoon I was working around the clock to make sure I had everything covered that I wanted to discuss and the prizes were in order.

To have a successful Blogathon you need multiple sponsors who are willing to donate a prize or two for you to raffle off to a winner. Contacting would-be sponsors was my first order of business and most of the time I did not hear back from them or they were simply not interested. I had one company (who shall remain nameless) tell me that they would not be a apart of a charity event that did not benefit people but instead benefitted animals. Well, that was disheartening and rather rude, but I moved on! Some prizes were sent to me months ago from lovely companies and I am finally able to get them packaged and ready to go out!

Lindsay helped me tremendously with my Blogathon page and getting all of that set up quite some time ago and I have really just been trying to get the word out the best way I could, social media! It wasn't always easy and it has been down right heartbreaking most of the time just trying to gather donations, but all in all what I have done was all for the animals and they get 100% of the proceeds. The support that was given to me for doing this is appreciated and I am grateful to those of you do gave me that support, I couldn't do this without you!

NKLA & Pet Super Adoptions

Each spring BFAS puts on pet super adoptions around the country in an effort to find as many homes for not only animals with BFAS, but animals that would be adopted out through local shelters and rescue groups!

It is entirely a collaborative effort and over a two to three day period as many homes are found as possible for the thousands of dogs and cats in need at these events! I can say from first hand experience, it is an AMAZING thing to watch when an entire animal shelter returns back to their location from the event with a completely empty truck! It is every animal rescuers dream come true to see that kind of effort pay off.

These events are always quite the fun and festive affair with food trucks and games and informational booths, they are the best! BFAS Los Angeles recently hosted their NKLA Adoption Weekend in early May and they had a record amount of dogs and cats find forever homes. Be on the look out for these events in an area near you next spring!
