Kittens! Kittens Everywhere!

One of the newest additions to the BFAS Los Angeles facility in Mission Hills is the fantastic neonatal kitten nursery! Opening in early 2013, the kitten nursery is run by staff and volunteers within the Mission Hills facility and is working 24/7 to save momma cats and their kittens.

The goal of BFAS Los Angeles is to save 1,800 kittens this kitten season alone, and as of the time that this blog post is going up they have recently saved their 1,000th kitten!

Kittens have a whole host of needs from bottle feeding, warming blankets, special food, possibly time in an incubator; the list goes on! If you step inside the kitten nursery (and I have twice) at any given time, you will undoubtedly see at least one volunteer bottle feeding a tiny kitten wrapped in a little blanket.

Kittens have a very low mortality rate when they are brought to a shelter, some not even living past the day they were brought in, so BFAS Los Angeles stepped up and has been saving them as fast as they could with the resources they have. If YOU would like to volunteer in the kitten nursery or even if you would like to donate some items for the cats in need, please check out their website at this link to find out more!
